picture was made. She was 87 years old when she died in 1965 (obit
of Nancy Ann McNeil) and lived in Prosperity at the time. My
Grandmother was their daughter Cleopatra McNeil Berry and my
mother was Ruby Jewell Berry Maynor."

ALLEN JACKSON
CROFT, Jr., died
Wednesday, May 11 in Durham. He was 46 years old. Allen was born in
Beckley, W.V. and attended West Virginia Tech, where he received a
bachelor's degree in Computer Science. He later graduated from his
beloved school, the University of Virginia (UVA), with a master's
degree in Computer Science. Allen was employed at IBM for 25 years as
a computer programmer and was a member of the UVA Alumni Association.
When he wasn't busy attending UVA athletic and social events, Allen
enjoyed countless hours with his faithful companions, Sidney and Jack,
his nine and eight year old boxers. Allen is survived by his loving
wife of eight years, June T. Croft of Durham; his mother, Gloria
Fleming of Cleveland, OH; his father, Allen J. Croft, Sr. of Mebane;
five siblings and several nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering to
celebrate Allen's life will be held Sunday afternoon from 2 - 4 p.m.
in Hall- Wynne Funeral Home, 1113 W. Main St., Durham. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. |

GREENVILLE, SC-- Eleanor Severn Wright,
89, of Greenville and formerly of Spartanburg, died Thursday, March 2,
2006, at National Healthcare of Greenville.
Born June 8, 1916, in Eccles, WV, she was the daughter of the late
Charles and Mable White Severn. She
was a former employee of Floyds Cemeteries.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue White
Sharp and her husband Frank
of Greenville, and Nancy White Seay
and her husband Richard of
Spartanburg; a son, Charles W. White
and his wife Judy of Simpsonville;
three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her very best
friend, Shirley M. Georgeff. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2006, at
Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by Rev.
Glenda Bumgarner. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the name of
Eleanor S. Wright to the
Alzheimers Association of the Upstate-Greenville, 301 University
Ridge, Suite 5000, Greenville, SC 29601; or to Vista Care Hospice

Boone Sr.
Franklin Harvey Boone, Sr., 57, of
White Oak, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, at the Beckley VA Medical Center
following a long illness. Born April 25, 1948, at Eccles, he was the
son of the late Omar William Boone
and Lillie Turner Boone.
Mr. Boone was employed as a heating
and air conditioning technician and was a former factory worker. He
was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was preceded in
death by a brother, William Boone;
a stepson, Larry Lilly; and a
sister, Mattie Nickels. Survivors
include his companion of 18 years, Rosenell
of White Oak; children,
Ginger Boone of Cleveland, Ohio,
Patricia Boone of Bluefield and
Franklin H. Boone Jr. of Beckley; stepchildren,
Yvonne Washburn of Oak Hill,
Sarah Harvey of Daniels,
William Lilly of White Oak and
Elijah Lilly of White Oak; a
brother, Grant Boone of Cleveland;
two sisters, Dollie Byrd of Eccles
and Audrey Boone of Amigo; and 11
grandchildren. Service was Friday, Dec. 9 at Rose and Quesenberry
Shady Spring Chapel with the Rev. Larry
Cochran officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Darrell Campbell, Eddie
Meadows, Chuck Washburn, Franklin Boone Jr., Ellis Vest Jr., Zack

Evelyn Margaret Richmond, 81, of
Beckley, died Saturday, April 20, 2002, in a Beckley hospital
following a long illness. Born April 16, 1921, at Eccles, she was the
daughter of the late Noah A. and Eva Margaret
Allmon Daniel. Mrs. Richmond
spent her childhood in Mabscott and was a 1939 graduate of Woodrow
Wilson High School. She was a member of the Mabscott United Methodist
Church and a resident of Stanaford Acres for 28 years. She worked for
12 years at Nixon Furniture on Neville Street, for 12 years at
Greenbrier Dairy as a secretary and retired from Southern West
Virginia Clinic as an insurance clerk. She was preceded in death by
her husband, Gordon Richmond on Oct. 29,
1998; a brother, W. G. Daniel; a
niece, Cheryl Lynn McDorman, and a
nephew, Richard E. Daniel Jr.
Survivors include a brother, Richard Daniel
and his wife, Josephine
of Beckley; a niece, Karen Daniel
and her son, Robbie of Aurora,
Colo., and another great nephew, Richard E.
McDorman Jr. of Hollywood, Fla. Service will be 1 p.m.
Wednesday at Melton Mortuary Chapel with
Pastor Bill Parker, assisted by
Pastor Robert Henson, officiating. Burial will follow in
the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, Beckley. Friends may call 7 to 9

Obit - Mary "Marie" Nancy Bair,
79, formerly of Mabscott, died Friday, June 1, 2001, in a Birmingham
care center following a short illness. Born July 10, 1921, at Mabscott,
she was the daughter of the late Daisy Arthur
and Mike Moro.
Mrs. Bair was a former resident of
Mabscott before moving to Birmingham in 1974, and she was of the
Christian faith. She was preceded in death by her husband,
William Paul Bair, who was killed
in a mining accident at Eccles in 1954. Survivors include a
daughter, whom she made her home with, Billie
Sue Persinger and her husband, J.
Earl, of Birmingham, Ala.; a son,
Richard Dwain Bair and his wife,
Phylis Jean, of Birmingham, Ala.; three grandsons,
William Earl Persinger and his wife,
Stacey, of Fort Myers, Fla.,
Richard Bair II and his wife,
Karen, of Birmingham, Ala., and
Michael Bair and his wife,
Kristy, also of Birmingham, Ala.;
two great-granddaughters; and seven great-grandsons. Graveside
services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.
Those wishing to attend the services, please meet at the funeral home
at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at Melton Mortuary
Chapel. Any family and friends will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of

Obit - Howard Cook, 83,
formerly of Eccles, WV, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at Alleghany
Regional Hospital, Low Moor, VA, following a short illness. Born Oct.
5, 1922, at Pine Knob, he was the son of the late
Joseph Ulysses and
Martha Ann Accord Cook.
Mr. Cook was a retired maintenance
worker from the West Virginia Department of Highways, Beckley and was
also a self-employed mechanic. In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by: his wife, Annie Mae
Bryant Cook; sister, Arizona
Bailey; six brothers, Dennis,
Lawrence, Chap, James Arthur, Don, and
George Cook; granddaughter,
Victoria Van Hoye; grandson,
Billy Van Hoye; and four infant
great-grandchildren. Survivors include: four daughters,
Dorothy Van Hoye and husband,
Bill of White Sulphur Springs,
Wilma Van Hoye and husband,
Charles of White Sulphur Springs,
Sarah Cook of White Sulphur Springs, and
Anita Cook of Thomas, LA; three sons,
Randy Bryant of White Sulphur

Dec. 4, at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, where the Rev. Frank
Jones officiated. Burial was in McElhenney Church Cemetery, Grassy

Patricia Moss Kent Alter, of
Shepherdstown, passed away peacefully on Dec. 3, 2005. Born 1919 in
Eccles, WV., she was the third child of
Moss E. and Irene Kent.
Pat was a graduate of Pennsylvania
College for Women (now Chatham) and worked for the Alumni Office of
West Virginia University. There she met her first husband,
Kemble White Jr. They lived in Widby
Island, Wash., close to White's Navy post of duty in the
Aleutians, and while there had a son, Kemble.
She was widowed in 1944 and returned to W.Va. in 1949. She
was married to George E. Alter Jr.
Their son David was born while
they lived in Star Lake, N.Y. In 1951, they moved to Martinsburg,
where their son, George, was born.
They later settled in the community of Blairton.
Pat was a member of the Gateway Garden Club where she
stood as their Second President, The Supper Club, Martinsburg
Cotillion, Travel Club, The Bud Van Meter Bridge Club, Trinity
Episcopal Church Saint Mary's Guild of Martinsburg and the Trinity
Episcopal Church of Shepherdstown. She enjoyed gardening, bridge and
bird watching. Her face lit up at the sight of a child, and she
enjoyed the company of others. She was a lovely woman who saw simple
beauty everywhere. In addition to her husband,
George Jr., she is survived by one
sister, Jean Kent Higgens of
Charleston; sons, Kemble White III
of Santa Barbara, Calif., David S. Alter
and George E. (Paddy) Alter III of
Martinsburg; grandchildren Kemble White IV
of Austin, Texas, and Morgan White
Garvey of Scottsdale, Ariz.; great-grandchildren
Kemble Thorn White and
Carys Morgan White. A memorial
service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9 at Trinity Episcopal
Church in Shepherdstown. The family will receive friends immediately
following the service at the Clarion Conference Center in
Shepherdstown. Memorial contributions can be made to the Interfaith
Volunteer Care Givers, P.O. Box 1882, Shepherdstown, WV, 25443.

member of DAV, American Legion and First United Methodist Church,

Madeline Duffield, 85, of Clay, passed
away August 11, 2004, at Johnson’s Elderly Care Home, Belva. She was born
on April 21, 1919, in Eccles, WV, to the late
Ezra and
Florence Queen. In addition to her parents, she was
also preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and great-grandson,
Samuel
McCoy. She was a self-employed owner and operator of Kilroy’s Discount
Store in Clay for many years, and a member of Maysel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Jimmie Duffield
of Clay and Jerry Duffield of
Strange Creek; daughter, Nancy Nichols
of Maysel; sisters, Frances Drake
of Ivydale, and Ruth Self of Elizabeth, WV; 8 grandchildren, 17
great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Sunday, August 15, 2004, at
Carl Wilson Funeral Home, Clay, with
Minister Ralph Davis officiating. Burial will
follow in the Duffield Cemetery, Duck.
