Children of Ivan and Lillian Lowery mid 1940's .

From left they are Claude, Adrian, Wade and Shirley holding Karen. The picture was taken at our residence on "Purity" hill above # 5 mine. The house in the background was the Cormack residence and the garage with the basketball goal was the "playground" for a lot of the area kids. At this time Ivan Lowery (our Father) was an outside motorman on evening shift at the mine.

Eccles Local Union 5770 First Aid Team 1940's - I located a picture of the Eccles Local Union 5770 First Aid Team. I think the time frame for this picture is in the late 1940's. The only members of the team that I am sure of is my Father, Ivan Lowery (third from left) and John Cormack (fifth from left). This team would compete against other teams from local mines at 4th of July and Labor Day celebrations. I hope the other members can be identified by others visiting your web site.

Addition: The man on the right is Mike Griffith (sp) third from the right is John Cormack, the man in  the middle handing the trophy to  is my dad Elisha Carter.  Also Wiley Irvin was the patient.  Submitted by Wallace Carter - April 2, 2004.

Addition: "Dennis, The person on the far left of the picture of the First Aid Team for 5770 is Wiley Erwin." Submitted by Boyd Ballard April 13, 2004.

Correction: I believe there is a correction in order for the way Wallace Carter identified the men in the Eccles First Aid Team picture. Thanks to Boyd Ballard and Wallace Carter, most of the men are identified. There are two with tentative identifications and one not identified. From left to right: 1. Wiley Irvin, 2. unidentified, 3. Ivan Lowery, 4. Elisha Carter holding the trophy, 5. John Cormack, 6. Hubert Lawson (maybe), 7. Mike Griffith, 8. Ed Dix (maybe). Submitted by Ivan (Adrian) Lowery - April 30, 2004

Correction: "I have the following correction: The person second from the left in the photo was Hubert Lawson. He was my uncle." David Jones Submitted December 6, 2006

Correction: "Regarding the picture of the Eccles miner's, there is an error in their identity. The second from the left is my brother Hubert Lawson. He worked the Eccles mine from his 18th birthday until he retired at the age of 58. Hubert passed away from lung cancer in 1993." Virginia Lawson Jones

Eccles group photo from the late 1940's

Top Row: Harry Payton, Wife, Cycil?, Man?

Middle Row: Man/guitar?, Woman?, Elsie Lambert, Omar William Boone, Gilmer Ayers, Man?

Bottom Row: Phyllis Lambert, William Omar Boone, Dolly Boone, Girl?, Grant Stephen Boone

"..Here is a photo (from the late 40's) that belongs to my mother-in-law, Phyllis "Lambert" Cook. She thought some may enjoy it. Also hopefully someone can fill in the blanks."  Thanks Becky Cook Submitted January 21, 2005

Addition: "...Regarding the Eccles group photo from the late 1940's .... I am able to identify the Boone family members in the bottom row, and perhaps provide a clue as to the identity of the man behind the podium in the middle row. The "Boone boy?" on the left is my late uncle, William Omar Boone. He was born on 28 May 1937 and died 8 Jan 2003. He is buried in Peterstown Cemetery. The "Boone boy?" on the right of the bottom row is my uncle, Grant Stephen Boone who was born on 21 May 1942. Dollie Boone is of course their sister. Dollie is married to Walkina BYRD. She is the pastor of the Sophia Pentecostal Church of God. She and her husband live in Harper. William, Dollie Mae, and Grant were the children of Omar (Omer) William Boone. If this group photo was taken in a church setting then it is possible that the man behind the podium in the middle row is my grandfather, Omar William Boone, as he was a preacher in the Missionary Baptist denomination.  Please feel free to contact me for any further information." Sincerely, John Nichols Submitted December 10, 2005
